The Wellness Director is responsible for guiding patients towards healthy lifestyle behaviors primarily through medical exercise prescription. The Wellness Director works in tandem with Physical Therapists, and Dietitians to provide patients with a collaborative team approach to addressing whole health. With access to state-of-the-art technology and equipment, Wellness Directors can obtain the needed data to deliver evidence-based programming to support a clinical approach to exercise prescription. Reporting results to patients and physicians is an opportunity to be involved in a comprehensive, data driven care model.

The Wellness Director will report directly to the Clinic Director and/or manager. The position requires critical thinking skills and the ability to competently work independent of on-going instruction to deliver high quality Lifestyle Medicine programming in alignment with patient and care team goals. Employees are expected to maintain a safe and clean exercise environment while creating a professional health and wellness atmosphere.

PREREQUISITES:
1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology or a related field.
2. Completion of an internship or has experience in performing fitness evaluations.
3. Non-smoker.
4. Must have or obtain ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist credential within the first 6 months of active employment.

Responsibilities

  • A Wellness Director is expected to have a thorough understanding of how Nutrition, Sleep, Stress, Substance abuse, and Relationships impact physical activity and overall success in achieving health related goals.
  • Performing assessment test in order to determine exercise prescriptions.
  • High quality exercise prescription is a requirement.  Programming and outcomes will be measured through key performance indicators consistently.  
  • Fyzical Eastlake’s Wellness Services is focused on utilizing technology to provide data and feedback, driving engagement and long-term results. Confidence in using technology and effectively educating patients to use tools to improve the patient experience is essential.
  • The Wellness Director role can physically demanding requiring:
    • Ability to assist with patient transfers
    • Reposition Equipment
    • Maintaining the facility through regular cleaning
  • A Wellness Director must have the ability to demonstrate and cue exercises and techniques.
  • The Wellness Director must be comfortable with sales and marketing. Many programs are cash pay, and having confidence to make recommendations and sell services is essential to the success of the position.  
  • Must meet documentation standards, outlined in department policies.  

     

Pathway Engagement

The Wellness Director is responsible for the sales component of all Wellness services. Additionally, the Wellness Director will be asked to participate in the following to advocate services of Lifestyle Medicine:

  1. Information Sessions
  2. Community Events
  3. Outreach Opportunities

       Continuum of Care

  1. Collaborates with the full care team to provide appropriate patient care information and alters treatment plan, as needed, by incorporating information obtained by other team members into the treatment plan. 
  2. Ability to appropriately document discharge or continuation of care in a timely and accurate manner. 
  3. Acts as a resource for staff as a member of the Lifestyle Medicine Care Team and serves as an expert in exercise for the department. 
  4. Ability to provide appropriate information to subsequent providers related to the patient/client’s plan of care and services when a patient moves to different services. 

Skills & Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working in a fitness center or with rehabilitation services.
  • Demonstrates ability to educate patients with a variety of needs and backgrounds
  • Demonstrates good communication skills with a diverse population of age groups and conditions.
  • Experience with SOAP notes and creating SMART goals to drive change
  • Is capable of driving outcomes through managing patient data and identifying trends.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification or eligible to take within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and demands ensuring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to embrace and seize opportunities to deliver best practices.
  • Proficient at working with a population with diversity in age, ethnicity, educational background, cognitive/psychological status, and physical capacity.
  • Experience in performing fitness evaluations and prescriptions for people with special needs. people with special needs.
